Cornwall Council has approved a road closure for the Watergate Bay Sprint event, which will temporarily close Watergate Road and associated paths in Newquay on September 20th and 21st, 2025, between 06:00 and 19:00. The closure is necessary for public safety during the Watergate Road Sprint, with a diversion route to be provided on-site. The event organisers will endeavour to reopen the road by 17:30 each day.

The County of Cornwall (Watergate Road, Newquay) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2025
Notice is hereby given that Cornwall Council has made the above Order dated 1st September 2025 in exercise of its powers under Section 14(1) of the RTRA 1984 to temporarily prohibit the use by traffic of the undermentioned lengths of road in Newquay.
This prohibition is necessary for because of the likelihood of danger to the public during the Watergate Road Sprint and it is expected that the closure will be from 20th September 2025 to 21st September 2025. The prohibition will be in force between the hours of 0600 and 1900, weekends included.
Roads affected – Watergate Road Newquay between the access to Watergate Bay Hotel car park and grid reference SW 83967 64162, Watergate Road Layby for its entire length between grid reference SW84136 64763 and SW 84119 64690, Footpath 36 between grid references SW 84106 64598 and SW84097 64595 and Footpath 37 between grid reference SW84214 and its junction with Watergate Road, and Access to Trebulsue Farm and Footpath 38 for their entire lengths.
